Management
University of Connecticut Restoration /
Roofing
Description:
Design and Resource Management, constructed
1942. One of five historic buildings on the campus of
the University of Connecticut which the state wanted to
preserve and maintain in its original condition. Test
results showed that the existing slate was too soft and did
not meet today's standards. The results were numerous
broken or defective slate roofing tiles allowing water into
the building and causing damage to the plaster finishes. A
large crack through the masonry wall along the front
elevation was investigated for any structural damage with
none being found. Martin A. Benassi, AIA - Architect
prepared complete construction documents for replacement of
the slate roofing, reroofing of the flat areas with copper
sheet metal, and repair to all deteriorated copper
flashings. The firm also provided documents for other
repair to deter further water entry including re-pointing
of masonry and painting of doors and windows. |
