Description:
This historic, ornate brownstone building
located on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven contains Yale
University's extensive collection of priceless musical
instruments. The firm of Martin A. Benassi, AIA -
Architect was retained to investigate moisture penetration
problems associated with the masonry and provide the owner
with appropriate building repair procedures.
The building is constructed of
brownstone from Portland, Connecticut. Years of
neglect called for complete cleaning of the facade to
remove layers of dirt prior to any masonry restoration
work. Mortar matched original in color and type so as
to maintain the historic character of the building.
