Danbury Hospital
Danbury, Connecticut
Building Evaluation Study
Exterior Walls & Roofs Description:
Danbury Hospital is the area's largest employer with close
to 3,000 employees. It is comprised of numerous
buildings, forming a complex campus-type environment with
over 450 beds. The oldest building was built
approximately 100 years ago. The majority of the
building exteriors are face brick and the roofs low
pitched, except for the Tower building which is clad with
metal panels and has precast concrete terraces.
Danbury Hospital originally
contacted structural engineer, John Smolen, to perform a
structural study of the exterior walls and roofs of the
older buildings. John, knowing our reputation and
quality of expertise in this field, then contacted
Martin A. Benassi, AIA - Architect to analyze the
architectural issues. Martin A. Benassi, AIA -
Architect surveyed the 14+ buildings with 60 individual
roofs (172,330 SF - almost 4 acres) as well as nearly two
miles of exterior elevations with heights varying from 4 to
13 stories. As a result, the hospital was provided
with recommendations, a maintenance time line, and related
cost estimates to facilitate their fiscal and maintenance
planning needs.
