Langer Residence
Easton, Connecticut
Residential

Description:
A steep, wooded 8 acre site in western Connecticut presented extreme design constraints due to wetland and zoning requirements. The owner requested a Queen Anne appearance to the house while blending into the old New England country setting. The solution was to angle the house and maximize the views of the wooded wetlands while conforming to necessary building requirements. Typical Queen Anne styling was accomplished by integrating steep roof lines, paneled brick chimney, and prominent projecting gables and dormers. Constructing materials, such as fish scale shingles and clapboards, were also used for exterior highlights. Design of a country porch and a separate garage helped to blend the house into a farm-like setting. Special features include: prominent porch / balcony open house to outdoors; custom cherry cabinets and Corian counter tops; 26 foot high cathedral ceiling in living room; floor to ceiling glass wall in living room. Total floor area, 2,700 square feet.
