Ratcliffe Hicks
University of
Connecticut Storrs, Connecticut Restoration / Roofing
Description:
Ratcliffe Hicks, constructed in 1951.
Water infiltration over the years had taken its toll on this arena /
classroom building causing severe deterioration. Upon close examination, it was
discovered that portions of the gypsum deck had collapsed causing a threat to
occupants. Temporary structural repairs were detailed until actual deck
replacement could be made. Martin A. Benassi AIA, Architect prepared complete
construction documents for the replacement of the slate roofing, re-roofing of
the flat areas with a single membrane, and repair to all deteriorated copper
flashing. Structural repairs included reinforcing of the roof deck and new
reinforced concrete area wells to replace the existing deteriorated units. The
firm also provided documents for other repair to deter further water entry
including repointing of masonry and caulking of doors and windows. |
